Dynamo won 4-0 over the weekend with goals from four different goalscorers, but still sit in third in Ukraine. Last time out in the Champions League, they lost to two Arkadiusz Milik goals as they lost 2-1 to Napoli and are the only team in the group to not pick up points on the first matchday. While Napoli will be the favorites to win the group, second place is genuinely wide open and a win in this match would keep things interesting. Besiktas are coming off of an Istanbul derby over the weekend in which they came back from 2-0 down at home to grab a draw against Galatasaray. The late equalizer came through Turkish forward Cenk Tosun, who has bagged five goals in the league this year. The Turkish champions are the surprise in this group so far after earning a draw away at Benfica and will be favorites to build upon that on Tuesday.
After six straight seasons outside the Champions League, the Black Eagles are back after qualifying directly to the group stage by winning the Turkish Super Lig. They’ll begin the campaign without Mario Gomez, who scored 26 goals in the league last year before deciding to leave for Wolfsburg in the offseason after the failed Turkish coup. They boast a wealth of young Turkish talent, however, in attacking midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup and forward Cenk Tosun. Veteran winger Ricardo Quaresma will provide experienced leadership after winning Euro 2016 with Portugal this summer.
Last campaign, Dynamo made it to the knockout rounds for the first time before losing to Manchester City 3-1 on aggregate. Prior to that, they had spent three straight seasons in the Europa League. They’ll have a decent opportunity to repeat last season’s feat with Besiktas, Napoli and Benfica alongside them in Group B. In attack, Dynamo are lead by Andriy Yarmolenko, who has been in the first team since 2008 and Brazilian Junior Moraes, who scored 11 in 26 appearances last season. They’ll host their Group B opponents in the Olympic Stadium, with a capacity just over 70,000.
An attacking mid and Arsenal academy product, Özyakup has appeared over 110 times for Beşiktaş at just 23.
The tricky winger has appeared over 50 times for Portugal, winning Euro 2016 this summer.
The second-highest ever scorer for the Ukrainian national team.
The Brazilian has spent most of his career in Eastern Europe - including the Romanian, Bulgarian and Ukrainian leagues.
